The Rise And Shine Of Dick DeVos

Dick DeVos is husband to Betsy DeVos, the current US Secretary of Education. Together, the couple has achieved quite a lot as philanthropists supporting reforms in the education sector as well as other positive community development projects. In particular, the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation have doled out many donations and grants in support of educational programs in numerous institutes of learning. The foundation advocates for educational choice in which private-choice students are allowed into publicly funded institutions. To achieve this, Dick contested to be part of the state Board of Education in Michigan, which he won in 1990. In the same endeavor, he ran for Governor of Michigan in 2006. The recent significant improvements in the school system policies within Indiana and Louisiana are largely attributed to the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation’s outstanding efforts in driving real change in the education sector.

Born in 1955, Dick DeVos was brought up in a generous family with a good history of supporting community development projects and running an extensive and successful business enterprise. Dick grew up to be a pretty sharp businessman, entrepreneur, and author. To foster his personal development in the business world, he was introduced to the family business at a young age. He later went on to hold senior positions in Amway Corporation, the family enterprise that is by itself a major network sales enterprises dealing in the household, personal care, and health products. He was appointed by his father to run the Orlando Magic (an NBA participant) as its president. Dick DeVos would later leave the family business to chart his way in the global business world where he founded Windquest Group. In 1993, he returned to run the Corporation where he served as the president. He oversaw the restructuring of the company with Alticor Corporation as the umbrella to Quixtar Corporation, Amway Corporation, and Access Business Group. This new smart structure saw the company expand to cover over 50 countries spanning six continents.

Before he retired from running the business in 2002, the family corporation posted over $4 billion in sales. Dick DeVos hasn’t been just a businessman. Dick has been involved in various community and government development projects. In fact, in 2017, Dick Devos was appointed to play a part in the Management Advisory Council of the Federal Aviation Administration. The appointment came from the Secretary of the US Department of Transport.
